About Gabriela Benecke Photography
Born in Guatemala city in the late 70's, I started playing with cameras at an early age, specially with the family's old minolta and a broken camera my family kept for me to play with. My passion for photography was born from the fascination of preserving moments, and also of capturing the essence of the subject or the situation arising in front of the lense.
I studied basic photography at Loyola University in Guatemala city, then moved to Miami beach and took a few workshops at the Arts Center of South Florida. Currently I am based in New York City where I attended the International Center of Photography -ICP-.
My main focus on photography has been street, lifestyle, portraits and ocasionally food shots. But after having worked in the restaurant industry for nearly a decade the interest for food shots has become one of my main focuses. I also come from a culture and a family where food plays a serious role in life, where eating is about coming together and sharing beautiful and delicious food. And after spending some time in Italy It came clear to me that food is not only for nourishment, by is my lifestyle and I love it. I believe that food like people can be definitely sexy and beautiful.
My experince has been mainly as a freelancer for commercial shots, I have also exhibited my work as well as taught Basic and Street Photography in Italy, New York and Guatemala.
